Whey and whey proteins are byproducts from the manufacture of cheese. Whey contains valuable proteins, which optimally supplement the diet of athletes. As a private label manufacturer, nutrineo utilizes whey proteins that include whey protein isolate (WPI) and whey protein concentrate (WPC). Both have different effects in the body and can thus be used for different purposes.
The difference between WPI and WPC
Whey protein isolate (WPI) consists of short protein chains and peptides; it is digested and metabolized rapidly in the body. It also supports the quick transportation of the proteins through the body to the muscles. This means that with the intake of whey protein isolate after physical exercise, balance can quickly be restored in order to supply the muscles sufficiently.
In contrast to whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate (WPC) also contains chains of molecules, which slow down digestion. Whey protein concentrate also contains lactose and lipids, which are completely removed in the production of whey protein isolates by filtration.
Our WPC and WPI products are ultrafiltrated and obtained by Cross Flow Microfiltration (CFM). What does this mean? Cold-processed proteins are defined as proteins obtained by CFM. The benefit: This process does not require any use of chemicals.
Whey proteins processed with this method are among the purest and highest quality proteins. The production process makes use of cross flow filtration technology with ultrafine filters. In this way the amino acids are maintained.
Whey production: Ultrafiltration and microfiltration
The CFM method is a simple filtration process that used various filters. They provide for mechanical exclusion of particles of certain sizes. In the production process of whey protein concentrate or whey protein isolate, all components that are larger than the ultrafine openings in the filter will remain in the liquid whey.
Apart from whey proteins, nutrineo also uses milk proteins, casein and vegetable proteins in its sports nutrition products. Depending on the training goal, proteins are used which allow for either a fast or a slower absorption in the body. They can be used as a whey-only product or as a protein mix in nutrineo’s protein shakes, protein powders or recovery products.
