There is a difference between a Low Calorie Diet (LCD) and a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD). For a LCD the recommended energy intake is 1,200 kcal while for a VLCD it is between 600 and 800 kcal. Different from meal replacement products, food intended to replace the entire diet (total diet replacement) fall within the scope of the FSG Regulation (Food for Specific Groups).
